Rebalance & Review of Enterprising Value Portfolio

This week we performed our monthly rebalancing.

This portfolio is made up of the 15 enterprising stocks that are trading at the greatest discount to their intrinsic value.  The first week of each month we will review the list, and make any trades necessary to get the portfolio to match the list.  Every week we examine the portfolio's performance against the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average, and reinvest any dividends.  The list of enterprising stocks is made by following modernized Benjamin Graham strategies, and intrinsic value is calculated by a formula based on Graham's overall philosophy of calculating value with a margin of safety.

This week we sold Building Materials Holding Corp (BMHC) at $25.30 for $7833, a 21.1% gain.  We sold Finish Line (FINL) at $11.11 for $6433.80, a 0.7% loss.  We sold M/I Homes Inc. (MHO) at $31.92 for $6533.6, a 0.5% loss.  We sold SpectraLink Corp (SLNK) at $8.12 for $7095, a 9.0% gain.

We bought Huttig Building Products Inc (HBP) at $4.96 for $6507.60, Westwood One Inc (WON) at $6.96 for $6517.60, Tuesday Morning Corp (TUES) at $12.89 for $6519.45, and Cost Plus Inc. (CPWM) at $10.84 for $6514.

Then we reviewed the portfolio for any positions that fell below 6% of the total portfolio.  We found Dollar General had fallen to 5.9% of the portfolio, so we upped our position by purchasing 50 additional shares at $12.22.  We also found John B. Sanfilippo & Son Inc (JBSS) had fallen to 5.1% of the portfolio, so we purchased 140 shares at $9.89.

The portfolio underperformed both the DJIA and S&P 500 indexes this week, and has underperformed them both overall.

Review of Enterprising Value Portfolio

This portfolio is made up of the 15 enterprising stocks that are trading at the lowest discount to their intrinsic value.

There were no transactions for this portfolio this week. Next week we will review the list for any changes and make any necessary transactions.

The portfolio outperformed both the DJIA and S&P 500 indexes this week, and has significantly outperformed them both overall.

The current value is calculated using prices near close from Thursday.
