Enterprising Investor Screens
These screens are for companies that may be suitable for the enterprising investor. The requirements of such an investor are that the company in question pass at least 4 of the following 5 tests:
- Sufficiently Strong Financial Condition, Part 1 – current ratio greater than 1.5
- Sufficiently Strong Financial Condition, Part 2 – Debt to Net Current Assets ratio less than 1.1
- Earnings Stability – positive earnings per share for at least 5 years
- Dividend Record – currently pays a dividend
- Earnings growth – EPSmg greater than 5 years ago

While I was working on doing valuations for each of these companies, I discovered that Champion Industries (CHMP) currently does not pass the current ratio test based on the interim balance sheet (apparently Google’s stock screener didn’t pick that up yesterday). As a result, please disregard CHMP from this list.
Will it be possible for you to publish a list of stocks ( India Specific) listed on Bombay Stock Exchange & National stock Exchange based on the above investor screens
Unfortunately, no. I don’t have a way to easily screen the companies on that exchange.
However, a quick way to find companies that fit the requirements of the enterprising investor is to find some website that can screen whatever index you are looking at (I use Google Finance’s stock screener but I’m not sure if it covers India), and set the requirements to the following:
1. Current Ratio greater than 1.5
2. Dividend greater than 0.01
3. EPS growth over the last 5 years greater than 0.01.
Those 3 tests will eliminate most companies, and then you can go through manually and double check the positive earnings for the last 5 years. If that passes, then you have an enterprising investor company (since we only require 4 out of the 5 tests).
